Mr Sebastiano Rosa, Winemaker
Sassicaia
Tuscany, Italy
Sassicaia is today one of the most sought-after fine wines in the world, credited to the vision, energy and drive of proprietor Marchese Nicolò Incisa della Rocchetta. Sassicaia's first vintage was released to universal acclaim in 1968 and is now widely accepted as one of the world's greatest Cabernet Sauvignon wines and made history recently, being the first and only single wine to be granted its own Denominazione di Origine Controllata, the "DOC Bolgheri Sassicaia". The wines of Sassicaia combine intense notes of cassis and cedary elegance, with extraordinary power and length.
Mr Pablo Álvarez, General Director
Vega Sicilia
Valladolid, Spain
Commending respect at the mention of its name, Vega Sicilia evokes wines of great elegance, finesse and complexity. One of Ribera del Duero's legendary estates, Vega Sicilia's wine, Unico, is much sought-after by wine connoisseurs and often fetches unheard-of prices. Its personality comes not only from the maximum quality of the grapes and the rigour involved in its manufacture, but above all, from the faithful attention to detail the Álvarez family has dedicated to their wine-making.
Mr Dominique Befve, General Manager and Winemaker
Château Lascombes
Margaux, France
Château Lascombes is one of the largest estates in the Médoc and probably the most fragmented, with around 40 or so different parcels of vines spread throughout the Margaux appellation. American company Colony Capital acquired Lascombes in 2001, introducing a series of modernization and new state-of-the-art techniques with the impetus to continue Lascombes' glorious history. Lascombes produces well-balanced clarets, rich in succulent creamy blackcurrant fruits, which gain further complexity and depth with ageing.
Ms Katharina Prüm, Owner and Winemaker
J.J. Prüm Estate
Wehlen, Germany
Weingut J.J Prüm is without question one of the finest estates in the Mösel. Established in 1911, it soon built up its reputation under the dedicated stewardship of the Prüm sons. The estate has 33.5 acres of vineyards planted with Riesling on steeply sloping, Devon schist soils. With mainly late harvesting, yields can be severely restrictive. The Prüm winemaking is an unwavering meticulous journey through the generations and the wines are characterized by their purity of fruit as well as by their distinctive mineral and slate character.
Ms Anne-Claude Leflaive, Winemaker
Domaine Leflaive
Burgundy, France
The vineyard of Domaine Leflaive is one of the most historic in Puligny-Montrachet, with its wines first recognised and celebrated in the Early Middle Ages, and blossomed in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. Today they are honoured by the appellation d'origine contrôlée (AOC). Continuing the oldest Burgundian tradition of vine growing, this common heritage and pride of the trade is eternal yet renewed through each generation. Leflaive produces superb wines of unbending character and grace that combine richness and depth of fruit with refinement and perfect balance.
