Sun
Yu-Li - A Universal Artist
“By
using my hands to create each sculpture,
I have total control over the ideas and thoughts I wish to express”
It’s
easy to mistake this neat, soft-spoken artist for a doctor or an
architect. Yet one could be forgiven, as up until 1985, Sun Yu-Li
was in fact a successful architect. Now a full-time artist with
over forty public works to his credit, Mr Sun made his name in 1991
by winning Taiwan’s prestigious Modern Sculpture Competition.
His work now graces public venues in Singapore and China. It isn’t
hard to see why. Each one bears his trademark simplicity of form,
a synthesis of western pragmatism and eastern philosophy. Starting
with a simple dot, he progresses to a line, a plane and finally
to a three dimensional form. It’s what he calls the Universal
Language, where all things can be described with these most basic
of components. One must agree, Sun Yu-Li’s ethereal sculptures
make the perfect counterpoint to the universal languages of wine
and food.
Mr
Sun’s sculptures will also be available for viewing at Artfolio
Gallery from 18 November to 8 December 2002.

| Lorenza
Sebasti – Castello Di Ama
The
estate is set between Radda and Gaiole, in the most famous of Tuscany’s
Chianti regions. Together with wine production specialist, Marco
Palanti, second-generation owner, Lorenza Sebasti ministers over
Castello di Ama to produce an exceptionally austere, elegant and
rich Chianti Classico. So it is not surprising that their wines
today are icons of the Italian wine scene.
